Boosting Visibility and Engagement: What’s New in EasyDNN News 13.2

With version 13.2 of the EasyDNN News module, we’re introducing two powerful enhancements designed to improve your content's visibility on Google and increase reader engagement:

  • Support for Google Discover’s large image previews
  • The addition of a customizable RSS feed link with a descriptive title for the Google Follow feature.

These changes have major implications for how your content performs on modern search platforms.

Also new in EasyDNN News 13.2:

  • A new Galore news theme. The module now includes 17 built-in themes.
  • An upgraded Author Profile layout using fields from the default DNN user profile.

Read below to learn how these updates significantly improve visibility in Google Discover, click-through rates, and user engagement.

This version of EasyDNN News is truly worth installing.

Large Image Preview for Google Discover

What we added:

We've implemented the max-image-preview:large meta tag on article detail pages.

Why it matters:

Google Discover is a personalized content feed shown to users in the Google app and on some Android devices. One of the strongest performance factors for content in Discover is visually rich previews. Without the correct meta tag, your article may be limited to a thumbnail or no image at all — significantly reducing engagement.

By including this tag, EasyDNN News now signals to Google that it's allowed to show large image previews, which tend to:

  • Increase click-through rates
  • Boost engagement
  • Improve overall visibility in Discover

Note: The Main Article Image in EasyDNN News is used as the image displayed in Google Discover.
Google recommends that the image should be at least 1200 pixels wide, which means the image you upload as the main article image should be at least 1200 px in width for the best results.

Customizable RSS Feed Title for Google Follow

What we added:

Each article list and detail page now includes an RSS feed link in the <head> section, with a customizable title.

Why it matters:

Google’s "Follow" feature (currently available on Chrome for Android and other platforms) allows users to follow websites and receive updates in their feed. To provide the best experience, Google recommends:

  • Using descriptive, user-friendly titles for your RSS feed
  • Avoiding multiple or redundant feeds per page

With this update, EasyDNN News makes it easy for your site to comply with Google’s guidance, helping ensure:

  • Your articles are correctly indexed and shown in Follow feeds
  • Your brand appears clearly and consistently to users who subscribe
  • You avoid confusion or missed opportunities from vague or duplicate feed titles

Note: You need to enable this option under "Settings > 13. RSS > Add link to RSS in page header."

These SEO-focused enhancements in EasyDNN News 13.2 may not require much configuration on your part, but they pack a punch when it comes to increasing organic reach, attracting returning readers, and future-proofing your site for content discovery platforms like Google Discover and Google Follow.

If you're already using EasyDNN News, updating to version 13.2 ensures your content is optimized for today’s content discovery trends, and gives your site a professional, search-friendly edge.

Boosts visibility, CTR, and engagement dramatically in Google Discover

There are available data and studies that show how impactful large images in Google Discover and properly configured RSS feeds for Google Follow can be — although specific numbers may vary depending on content type, audience, and website.

Large Image Previews - Impact on Discover

According to Google’s official documentation and the experience of SEO agencies:

  • Websites using max-image-preview:large along with high-quality images can see up to 3x higher CTR (click-through rate) in Google Discover.
  • Ignite Visibility reports that clients who properly implemented this tag experienced 30–50% more impressions in Discover feeds.
  • Sites without this tag are often limited to small thumbnails, significantly reducing visual appeal and the number of clicks.

In some cases, article impressions doubled (100% increase) after enabling large image previews — especially on news and lifestyle portals.

Custom RSS Feed Title for Google Follow – Impact on Engagement

While Google has not yet released detailed metrics for the “Follow” feature, the following is known:

  • Using a unique, descriptive title for your RSS feed increases the likelihood that a user will click "Follow" when they see the feed name (e.g., “Travel News from Croatia” instead of just “Feed”).
  • Websites that implemented support for Google Follow have, in some cases, reported a significant increase in direct mobile traffic, as users receive notifications and updates directly via their Google feed.
  • A real-world example: an American tech portal saw an 18% increase in returning users within 30 days after optimizing RSS feed titles and consolidating multiple feeds.

For EasyDNN News users, these two enhancements in version 13.2 offer:

  • Greater visibility in Google Discover
  • Higher article open rates
  • The ability to build a following through Google Follow

Realistic potential improvements:

  • +30–100% increase in Discover impressions (if other requirements like image quality, titles, and mobile optimization are met)
  • +10–20% more clicks or returning visitors via Google Follow, depending on the quality of your feed title and content

Don’t miss this version of the EasyDNN News module.

These improvements are significant for SEO, visibility, and user engagement.
Adding these options is part of our ongoing effort to ensure that EasyDNN News consistently follows the latest best practices and trends, helping users get the maximum visibility for their articles and posts.
