AI Page Builder in BlockBuilder 5 AI

The AI Page Builder is the most exciting new feature in this version of BlockBuilder. We presented these new features in detail in this video, so we highly recommend watching it. BlockBuilder now delivers a truly advanced website editing experience that is difficult to find even in many other CMS platforms.

 

All you need to do is describe the page you want in a prompt, and the AI Page Builder will generate the entire page for you. It adapts the content to your instructions and can also choose suitable free stock photos from Pexels for your website.

If you are not satisfied with the first result, you can generate the page again. You can repeat the process until you get a page that matches your vision.

Once the page is generated, you can continue editing it directly in BlockBuilder, just as if you had created it manually from scratch. You can change the text, replace images, adjust the layout, modify the design, add new blocks, and fine tune everything until the page fits your needs.

Thanks to Smart Editing, editing and maintaining websites in DNN has become much easier and faster. We will cover Smart Editing in more detail later in this article.

 

 

More AI tools for faster website editing

In addition to the AI Page Builder, BlockBuilder 5 AI includes several other AI tools that can help you work faster and more efficiently.

AI Block Rewrite

AI Block Rewrite allows you to edit and improve the content of an individual block with the help of AI. You can use it to rewrite existing content, improve clarity, adjust tone, or translate block content into another language. This also works with blocks that were generated by the AI Page Builder.

This is especially useful when you want to quickly polish content without manually rewriting everything yourself.

AI Block CSS

AI Block CSS allows you to visually style an individual block using a simple prompt.

For example, you can write a prompt such as “change the background from red to blue,” and AI will apply the change for you.

This gives users a much easier way to customize block design without manually editing CSS.  

AI Module Styler

AI Module Styler is similar to AI Block CSS, but it works on a broader level.

Instead of styling one individual block, AI Module Styler allows you to apply a consistent visual style across all blocks inside BlockBuilder.

For example, you can ask AI to change all CTA buttons to blue, and it will apply that styling across the module.

This is a very practical tool when you want to quickly align the visual style of an entire page or section with your brand.

Theme compatibility

At the moment, AI Page Builder works with our Andromeda and Buildora DNN themes.

AI Block Rewrite, AI Block CSS, and AI Module Styler work with all 15 DNN themes from the EasyDNN Theme and Module Collection.

We are also preparing another new DNN theme with full support for AI Page Builder, and it will be released soon.

Smart Editing: Content Editing Has Never Been Easier

Smart Editing is a new feature introduced in BlockBuilder 5. It makes it much easier to perform tasks that would otherwise be more complex, especially for users who do not want to work directly with HTML.

If you have not watched the video yet, we highly recommend it. In the video, we clearly explain what Smart Editing is, how it works, and why it makes content editing faster.

Smart Editing adds a new editing layer that allows users to work directly with page elements, without needing to understand the internal HTML structure of a block or open the full builder for every small change.

This feature is not limited to accordions and tabs. It covers everyday content elements such as headings, text, lists, buttons, and images, as well as more complex repeating structures such as cards, feature items, testimonials, FAQ items, accordion items, and tabs.

For repeating elements, Smart Editing makes it easy to duplicate items, change their order, delete them, and edit the content inside each item. This removes the need for manually copying markup and significantly reduces the risk of accidentally breaking the block structure.

With Smart Editing, users can:

• edit headings, subheadings, text, buttons, images, and lists
• edit content inside cards and other repeating items
• duplicate an existing item and quickly adapt it
• move items up or down and change their order
• delete unnecessary items without manually editing HTML
• edit more complex elements such as tabs and accordions through simple controls
• restore a deleted element if an item was removed by mistake
• safely experiment with repeating elements, because deleted items can be restored during editing

Smart Editing is one of those features that quickly becomes essential once you start using it. It gives users more control, reduces the need for technical knowledge, and makes everyday website editing in DNN much faster, safer, and more comfortable.

Permissions: Builder and Quick Edit Access Rights

BlockBuilder 5 also introduces improved permission control for Builder and Quick Edit access.

The permissions workflow has been expanded so that Builder and Quick Edit rights can now be managed per user, per portal or site, and per module, in addition to the existing role-based approach. This gives administrators much more precise control over who can edit what, and how they can edit it.

For example, some users can be given access only to Quick Edit and the Smart Editing workflow, while more advanced users can be allowed to access the Full Builder.

This is especially important for teams where content editors need to update website content, but should not necessarily have access to the full builder structure or advanced layout editing options. With this improved permissions system, organizations can create a safer and more controlled editing workflow. Editors can focus on updating content, while designers, developers, or administrators can retain access to more advanced builder functionality.

This makes BlockBuilder 5 a better fit for real-world teams, agencies, clients, and larger DNN websites where different users often need different levels of editing access.

How to Add API Keys

To use AI features in BlockBuilder 5 AI, you first need to add the required API keys.

Start by enabling DNN Page Edit Mode. Then, open the DNN module action toolbar and select API Settings.

AI API Settings

The AI API supports multiple AI providers, giving you the flexibility to choose the provider that best fits your needs.

For the best results, we recommend using the OpenAI provider with the gpt-5-mini AI model for the AI Page Builder. In our testing, this model has provided the best balance between quality, speed, and cost efficiency.

As a free alternative, we also recommend Google Gemini, which offers a certain daily free usage limit depending on the selected model and account availability.

Stock Image API

BlockBuilder 5 AI supports the Pexels stock image provider.

The Stock Image API allows BlockBuilder to automatically add images from a stock photo service when generating pages with the AI Page Builder.

This is especially useful because the AI Page Builder can create not only the page structure and text, but also help select suitable visual content for the generated page.

How to Add Permissions

BlockBuilder supports two editing modes: Builder Mode and Quick Edit Mode.

Builder Mode

Builder Mode gives users access to the full BlockBuilder editing experience.

This includes advanced features such as adding new blocks, editing layouts, using AI integrations, accessing block panels, and working with more powerful builder options.

Builder Mode is intended for administrators, designers, developers, or advanced users who need full control over the page structure and design.

Quick Edit Mode

Quick Edit Mode is designed for fast and simple content editing.

It allows users to quickly edit content without accessing the full builder interface. In this mode, users can update content more safely, without additional features such as the block panel or advanced layout controls.

Quick Edit Mode is ideal for editors, clients, and content managers who only need to update text, images, buttons, lists, or other content elements.
