Comments in EasyDNNnews

EasyDNNnews comes with its own system of commenting articles. Additionally, Facebook comments and popular Disqus comments can also be used.

EasyDNNnews's system of commenting allows the visitors of your web pages to comment on articles. In the settings of EasyDNNnews module it can be determined who is allowed to comment on an article. Commenting rights can be set according to your needs. Thus, commenting can be allowed for unregistered users, exclusively for registered users, or for users that are in DNN roles that are enabled to post.

According to your needs, commenting can be turned off for particular articles, yet allowed for others. Among other options, we wish to point out the possibility of approving comments before they become public, using CAPTCHA in order to prevent spam comments, integration with Gravatar, an option to rate comments and two separate modes of comment display. Comments can be displayed in a classic way, that is chronologically, one below the other. Another option is the threaded view style, where it is visible who has replied to whom.

How to use EasyDNNnews comments

a) Setting up the commenting options

b) Setting up the commenting permissions

c) Approving comments (if necessary)

d) Notifications on new comments, as well as comments requiring approval

a) Setting up the commenting options

Commenting settings can be adjusted in the EasyDNNnews module's settings – section "11– Comments".

  • Enable comments
This option is switched on by default. If it is switched off, commenting is disabled.
  • Standard comments, Facebook comments, DISQUS comments
A choice is given between several types of comments. Standard comments are those built in the news module. Facebook and DISQUIS comments are also supported.
  • Use CAPTCHA
CAPTCHA is a challenge-response test requiring the user to solve a simple test to confirm that the user is a person, not a computer. CAPTCHA is used with comments in order to prevent leaving spam messages.
  • Comments must be approved
If this option is switched on, comments must be approved before they become public.
  • Show ratings of comments
If this option is switched on, it is possible to rate comments. Additionally, the average rating of a comment is visible.
  • Display comments in threaded view style
If this option is switched on, comments are displayed in a threaded view style. In other words, comments are displayed in such a way that it is visible who has replied to whose comment. If this option is not switched on, comments will be displayed chronologically, one below the other.
Note: In case you have subsequently decided to close commenting, it is possible to continue displaying the comments which had already been posted. If you switch off the option Enable comments, and there are some comments already present there, in section "11. Comments" several additional setup options will appear.
  • Show already posted comments
If this option is switched on, the already posted comments will continue to be displayed even after commenting has ended.
  • Show rating of already posted comments
If this option is switched on, the rating of the already posted comments will be shown.
  • Display comments in threaded view style

b) Setting up the commenting permissions

In the settings of an EasyDNNnews module, it is possible to assign and restrict the rights of posting comments to articles. It is also possible to assign rights to approve articles, if articles need to be approved before being displayed.

In order to set up these rights, it is necessary to mark in the settings of an EasyDNNnews module, in section "1. Permissions", which role can post comments, and which role can approve them.

c) Approving comments

If option "Articles must be approved" in the EasyDNNnews module's settings is switched on, articles need to be approved before they become public. Who is entitled to approve comments is set up in the EasyDNNnews module (section 1. Permissions).

Comments can be approved and moderated within EasyDNNnews Dashboard. Click on the Comments icon and the page to moderate comments will open.

Clicking on this icon will open the interface to edit comments.

Clicking on this icon will delete a comment.

Clicking on this icon will approve a comment.

Clicking on the link "Show filter settings" will open a filter allowing you to filter comments by categories.

Select all

Clicking on the button "Select all" selects all comments.

Unselect all

Clicking on the button "Unselect all" cancels the selected articles.

Clicking on the button "Ok" will delete selected articles.

d) Notifications on new comments, as well as comments requiring approval

Users can receive system notifications on new comments, as well as comments requiring approval. Notification settings can be adjusted in the EasyDNNnews module's Dashboard, on the "System notifications" page.

It is necessary to mark which role (or user) will receive notifications on newly posted comments, as well as comments waiting for approval.
