Paid content in EasyDNNnews

When we say paid content, the first thing that crosses our minds is content made available to us only if we pay for it. In our case, when we talk about paid content, we talk about a part of the article available only to users in a certain role. Specifically, this can mean that a part of the article is visible to all the web page visitors, whereas the entire article is visible only to registered users. This is a great way to obtain a large number of registered users.

Naturally, the paid content option can be used in such a way that paid content is available only if it is literally paid for. If you sell subscriptions at your web site and assign a certain role to your subscribers, it is possible to make paid content available only to those users.

Visitors who are not allowed to view paid content can receive a custom message, e.g. "Register to view the whole article", or perhaps "All articles for $19.99 per year. Subscribe here."

How to use paid content in EasyDNNnews module

In order to use paid content in EasyDNNnews module, it is necessary to:

  1. enable paid content in module's settings (section "12. Paid content")
  2. select in DNNnews module's permissions which roles can view paid content
  3. add a paid content token into the article (while adding an article, or subsequently

a) Module settings - 12. Paid content

In EasyDNNnews module settings it is necessary to enable the use of paid content in section "12. Paid content", and set up additional options.

  • Enable paid content
If this option is switched on, it is possible to use paid content on the portal or an instance.
  • Show comments to non-paid visitors
If this option is switched on, the article comments are displayed to non-paid visitors as well.
  • Show image gallery to non-paid visitors
If this option is switched on, an image gallery is displayed to non-paid visitors as well.

b) Module settings - 1. Permissions

Here it is necessary to set which role or roles are entitled to see the paid content.

c) Adding tokens for paid contents into the  article

While adding the articles into EasyDNNnews, it is necessary to add the tokens for paid content. Tokens can be added into the article subsequently.

Tokens for paid content

[EasyDNNnews:PaidContentStart|] – marks the beginning of paid content
[EasyDNNnews:PaidContentEnd|] – marks the end of paid content

The contents between these two tokens is paid content, and it is visible only to those users who are entitled to it.

If we wish to display a message to visitors who are not entitled to view paid content, we can accomplish that by using the following two tokens:

[EasyDNNnews:UnPaidContentStart|] – marks the beginning of content for non-paid visitors
[EasyDNNnews:UnPaidContentEnd|] – marks the end of content for non-paid visitors

The contents between these two tokens will not be visible to those who can see paid content.

Instead of adding the tokens each time in the article, they can be added in the HTML template.

Important note: The symbol | must be removed from the tokens. Here is | used only to make the tokens visible in the article.
